About The Department

Shawnee County Fire District #3 is located in Rossville, Kansas. We cover an area of 80 square miles in the northwestern part of Shawnee County. We also provide mutual aid to the surrounding communities as well as other counties as requested.

The Department

The department operates as a paid/volunteer department. We currently have 24 members, and there are three duty officers on duty at the station one of which is at the station from 8:30am to 4:30pm Monday thru Friday.

Services

The department offers many different services to the public. We respond to various emergencies: fire, rescues, motor vehicle accidents, water rescues, natural disasters, hazardous materials and medical emergencies. We also monitor and issue burn permits either at the station and online.

EMS Services

With 9 EMTs, 5 EMT-I and 2 Paramedic, we are able to provide Basic Life Support services to the district. In association with AMR we have an Ambulance on hand for all medical emergencies.

Training and Response

The department holds fire and medical training twice a month for its members. This training is to ensure that all members are knowledgable in the emergencies the department may be called to respond to. Though a majority of our calls are medical, we must also be able to respond to other emergencies.

Associations

The department maintains membership in the State Capital Area Fire Fighter's Association (SCAFFA), Kansas State Fire Fighter's Association (KSFFA) and the Kansas State Association of Fire Chief's (KSAFC), as well as individual membership in the Kansas Board of Emergency Services (KBEMS) for certification of our EMS members.
